We could save a lot of money if we just did not need to eat.
Unfortunately, that is not an option. Eating is a very
critical part of our well-being and is unavoidable.
Therefore, shopping for food is a necessary part of living.
There are many things we can do, however, to help cut the
food bill and keep as much of our hard earned money in our
pockets rather than in the merchant's cash register.
Here are just a few tips to help you save money when you
shop for groceries.
1) Plan your menus: Whether you shop weekly, biweekly or
monthly having your menus planned in advance will help you
save both time and money. Check your pantry for items on
the list that you already have. This will cut down on the
unnecessary expense of purchasing an item you don't need.
2) Stay organized: Organizing your kitchen and checking
expiration dates will help determine what you have and what
you need to put on your shopping list.
3) Stick to your list: Be sure everything you need is on
your list and stick to it. The only exception to this is if
you find an unadvertised sale for items that you normally
use.
4) Use coupons: Combining grocery coupons with weekly
sales can really help you save money. Swap coupons with
family or friends to save even more money.
5) Go vegan: One or two meatless dishes a week not only
saves money, but helps you get your recommended daily
allowance of vegetables.
6) Buy in bulk: Stock up on big packs of meat and poultry
and divide into meal size portions to freeze.
7) Be creative with leftovers: Finding creative ways to
serve leftovers is a great way to stretch your budget.
8) Cook for a month: There are several cookbooks that
specialize in cooking in bulk. Set aside one or two days
each month to prepare extra meals. Package these meals in
freezer bags or air tight containers and store them in the
freezer. This will save you money as well as much of your
valuable time.
By using some or all of these tips you will definitely see a
big difference in your budget each month. Start putting the
money you save in the bank or use it to pay off your other
debt.

How to Design a Healthy Diet, Carb Related Facts
by Ricardo d Argence
The body gets most of its energy from carbohydrates. When
your body takes in less carbs than normal, you can expect to
feel lethargic and drowsy. There are two kinds of
carbohydrates. Sugars -simple carbohydrates- are the first.
Starches, or complex carbohydrates are second. They are
different in that your body spends more time digesting one
than the other.
Starches take longer to digest than sugars which digest
fast. Simple carbs are foods such as pizza, chocolate, cake,
and other processed food with sugar additives. Certain
highly nutritious fruits such as apples, bananas, grapes,
and raisins fall in the category of simple carbohydrates
too. Complex carbs are found in breads, cereals, nuts,
pasta, and vegetables such as carrots, potatoes, and corn.
Starches release energy a lot slower because they stay in
the body for long periods of time.
Low-carb diets often do not work, because without energy,
the body doesn't feel like exercising. Dieters may become
depressed and tired frequently. Usually, any success with a
low-carb diet is only short-term, because the dieter gets
discouraged quickly. Why? Because people usually expect to
get more energy when eating healthy, not less so.
If you are looking to lose weight you need to incorporate
exercise into your life. Building muscle not only boots your
metabolism, but it also helps you burn more calories. More
lean muscle means there's less fat to burn, even while
resting.
When you decide to try a too-good-to-be-true fad diet, you
usually only end up losing water weight and lean muscle that
you really want to keep. Carbohydrate sparing slows you
metabolism and preserves the body's current fat stores
against the possibility of future nutrition storage.
Consuming smaller, healthy sized meals in the course of the
day maintains your metabolic rate and provides the energy
required to be active. Studies demonstrate that if
individuals combine a healthy diet with physical activity
they reduce their weight as well as fat by a greater amount
than those who only restrict their diet.
The point is this: if your looking to lose weight in a
hurry, eliminating carbs will accomplish the task. To
maintain a good health is the prime need at present
condition, for which you have to be choosy in selecting rich
food and restrict its intake to suit your age and height.
Otherwise, the long-term effect will probably cause you to
gain the weight back at a later time. Eat healthy, and
exercise regularly, and you will see long-term benefits.
When you decide not to eat certain foods, your body craves
it more and more. Good health will follow if you watch what
you eat and increase your activity level.

Can You Cook Live Lobsters Humanely?
by Sherry Shantel
Many people object to the common practice of cooking a live
lobster by plunging it into boiling water. Those with
tender hearts and animal rights philosophies are concerned
about the pain the animal experiences and advocate more
humane ways of creating lobster dinners.
Scientists have searched for information regarding the
amount of pain a lobster is capable of feeling. Lobster
lovers everywhere may be surprised at what they found.
A lobster cannot feel pain the way humans know it. Its
nervous system is too undeveloped, and its tiny, simple
brain is only a bunch of nerve endings. The brain of a
lobster is about the size of a grasshopper's brain and lacks
complexity.
Because of this lack, it is also extremely doubtful that a
lobster is able to feel pain the way people do. Based on
these findings, the practice of cooking live lobsters
continues. Three common methods of cooking a live lobster
are by steaming, boiling, or grilling.
To steam a lobster you need to start with a four to five
gallon pot which is the ideal size for steaming six to eight
pounds of lobster. Put about two inches of seawater (if you
have access to it) or other salted water in the bottom of
the pot. Put your steaming rack inside the pot, and bring
the water to a rolling boil over high heat. Add the live
lobsters one at a time. Put the lid on the pot and start
timing. One pound of lobster takes approximately 10 minutes
to steam. With six to eight pounds, it will take closer to
an hour. Make sure that you rearrange the lobsters in the
pot half way through the cooking process.
Using the four to five gallon pot, add three quarts of water
for every 1 to 2 pounds of lobster you want to boil. Next
add one-fourth cup of salt per gallon of water. After
heating the salted water to a rolling boil, add the lobsters
one at a time. One pound of lobster needs to be boiled
about 8 minutes, while it will take 50 minutes to an hour
for six to eight pounds. Time the process carefully and
halfway through the cooking time give the lobsters a good
stir.
To grill a lobster you must first par-boil it. You do this
the same way you boil a lobster; however, you limit the
boiling time to five minutes. Remove the lobsters from the
pot and plunge them into cold water so that they won't
continue to cook. Drain the lobsters. To prepare them for
grilling, place each lobster on its back on a cutting board.
Split the lobster down the middle and remove the black tail
vein and the sand sac near the head. Baste the lobster with
butter. Grill with flesh side down for 5 to 6 minutes. Turn
it over, baste it again, and cook another 4 to 5 minutes.
Although there are still people who spend time advocating
humane treatment for lobsters, most are willing to accept
the scientific data which says they do not suffer. The only
way you can enjoy the taste of truly fresh lobster meat is
by steaming, boiling or grilling it. The purchase of live
lobsters isn't limited to grocery stores and restaurants any
more, either. Online seafood shops will deliver the very
freshest lobsters overnight to your home.

Soup, A Year Round Family Favorite
by Jana Banks
Soup is one of the great all-season foods. People love the
many tastes and textures soup offers, and lest we forget,
there's also the classic comfort factor. Not just for
winter, soup is actually favored year round. And your thick,
hearty soups are a meal all alone. If you don't feel like
hot soup, why not try nice chilled fruit soup instead. Here
is some soup basics to get you started on your way to making
your next homemade soup.
Soups can be separated into a few categories; beginning with
those made with a stock base and those that can be made
without stock. Additionally there is the option of fruit
soups. Soups made with stock include broth, bouillon, and
consomm?. Soups that may be made without stock can include
puree, cream, bisque, and chowders.
Soup stock is typically made from meat. The classic meat
choices are commonly beef, lamb, turkey, veal, chicken, and
fish. Lighter color meats such as poultry will create a
light soup stock while the other darker meats will make a
brown colored stock. To flavor the stock you'll typically
add vegetables such as carrots, celery, and onion. These
soups stocks are the basis for your family favorites
including chicken soup, tomato soup, broths, and beef
vegetable soups.
Purees and cream soups often make a great main course for
lunch or for a lighter dinner since they're quite thick and
rich. Varieties can include split pea, creamy corn or
tomato, clam chowder, potato and bean purees bisques like
lobster or oyster, and vegetable cream soups such as cream
of broccoli or mushroom.
Fruit soups are a wonderful chilled alternative enjoyed
year-round, but especially in the heat of summer. Varieties
include strawberry, peach, melon, cantaloupe, and cherry.
You'll find certain cold soup recipes use vegetable based
stock and others list fruit juice in the ingredients
instead. Either makes a wonderful vegetarian dish.
Nothing really compares to a delicious, well-made soup. Be
sure to put the right finishing touch on your creamy soups
with a simple garnish and serve it the appropriate dish,
such as a nice covered soup dish for your bean or onion
soup, or a nice flat round bowl for your cream soup. And be
prepared for requests for seconds.
Don't forget to make a delicious dessert to complete your
meal, such as a golden pound cake made using a stainless
steel(http://www.thesmartcook.com/loaf-pan-stainless-steel-c-26-p-1-pr-62.html)
loaf pan. There are so many great desserts you'll be able

The Health Benefits of Nutritional Drinks in your Daily Diet
by Rachel Stevenson
Nutritional energy drinks are all good sources of vitamins.
They are ideal for anyone concerned about getting the right
amounts of vitamins, minerals and essential nutrients in
their diet in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
However, it's important to remember that nutritional drinks
are usually used to add to your diet and not replace it.
Many nutritional drinks are made in soils free of
pesticides. Today, more and more nutritional drinks are
based on fruits and fruit juices.
People who drink soda are more likely to pick up other
unhealthy habits such as smoking. Find out the ingredients
of these drinks to help you decide if they add to your
healthy diet. Dont replace fruit with fruit juice. Fruit
juice is healthy and it will provide nutrients, including
antioxidants, that you cannot get anywhere else. These
drinks are becoming more popular today because of the
countless health-related advantages. For years now,
cranberry extract has been used to cure health ailments;
however, it's only been in the last few years that
scientists have proven the benefits of cranberries. Teach
your kids about how dangerous soda can be and get them
interested in healthier options. In a study, women gained
less weight when they replaced soft drinks with fruit
drinks.
Some nutritional drinks are high in calories and have
additional fiber to make up for it. For adults who cannot
consume all the necessary calories each day, then
nutritional supplement drinks are a great alternative.
Another thought is to buy the nutritional drinks for
children, after consulting with a doctor.
We usually don't consume beverages for their food value but
rather for the sugar or taste. With the high amount of
stress in our lives, beverages provide a convenience with
storage and ease of consumption and increase our intake of
essentials vitamins and minerals. Creative cooks add fruit
juices to teas and lemonade and supplements can be consumed
in the same manner.
In addition to fruits, we should be consuming vegetables for
additional ingredients that can fill us up with nutrients so
we avoid eating more junk food. Find out which ingredients
of these drinks add to your nutrient levels and then decide
if they can contribute to a healthier diet for you. If you
are trying to keep to a healthy weight it's important to
keep a stable blood sugar level and avoid snacking because
of dehydration and hunger panes. Guidance on what
constitutes a healthy drink can be found online and a
healthy diet is available from the government website.
Joy Bauer interviewed Al Roker about getting vitamins from
foods & supplements since his surgery. If you've taken
vitamins will few results you are taking the wrong
supplement for you. Proper eating and taking minerals gives
you the vitamins you need without taking a vitamin
supplement. Dietary supplements include vitamins, minerals,
amino acids, enzymes, herbals and botanical.
Organic supplements with nutritional support to unlock your
physical potential will change your life. Natural diets are
becoming more popular as an alternative to several
treatments. Some products are a combination of remedies
that work most effectively together to produce naturally
healthy results. These energy drinks are a lot healthier
than coffee and other drinks to wake you up and don't
include the nutrients.
The most accessible product for small producers are fruit
drinks. Even with strong competition from carbonated soft
drinks, we can work with our children to grow up
understanding the dangers of pop and the amount of sugar it
lends to our diet. Don't overdo it and remember to
supplement your diet with things that will add vitamins and
minerals to your body each day.

A Home for a Lobster
by Sherry Shantel
Did you ever look at a lobster swimming around in the little
fish tank at a restaurant and wonder where he lived before
he was caught? You may remember he lived in the ocean, but
did you realize that most lobsters live in only the coastal
regions around the world. Once considered unfit to eat,
lobsters have risen in such popularity in the last few
decades that fishermen can hardly capture enough of them to
meet demand.
Right after he's born, a very tiny lobster looks nothing
like an adult lobster and has a 1/1000 chance of surviving
to adulthood. During the first 15 days of his life, he
lives in the top three feet of water in the ocean and is
extremely vulnerable to predators. During this period he
molts three times before moving into the fourth stage as a
miniature adult.
During the fourth stage the lobster swims very well and
looks for a permanent place to live on the ocean floor. He
may choose a home in a softer habitat, such as the salt
marsh peat around Cape Cod, but most generally he'll choose
a harder spot, such as an area with a cobble (small rocks)
bottom.
Cobble is an exceptionally suitable habitat for lobsters.
There are many crevices and cracks around and under the
small rocks that make up the cobble which offers him places
to hide and wait for his food to come to him. While many
coastal regions offer rocky bottoms, Maine is ideal in that
it also has just what lobsters like, clean, cold water.
After molting once more and moving into stage five of his
life, the lobster moves into his new ocean bottom home.
During his first year he spends the majority of his time
hiding in his crevice or tunnel in order to keep from being
eaten by his numerous predators. After this first year he
spends a lot of time during the next three years hiding in
the ocean bottom kelp and seaweed while looking for food.
Adolescent lobsters have great survival instincts that keep
them hidden for the first few years of their lives. If he
were to swim out in the open ocean when he was still this
young, he would be eaten within a matter of a few minutes.
When he gets larger he will make another move to an area
where there are larger rocks for him to hide in. He might
also choose to live in a muddy or sandy area anywhere
between the edge of the continental shelf and the shore.
Wherever he lives, he will live alone, because he's not a
social creature.
No matter where a lobster lives, there are sure to be
fishermen after him. If he manages to evade natural
predators and fishermen, however, he can live a very long
life. During colonial times when lobsters were abundant,
there are reports that some of the lobsters were five or six
feet long.
Lobsters don't get the chance to grow as large in this era
of modern fishing techniques. The biggest one on record was
caught in 1977 just off the coast of Nova Scotia. It
measured in at somewhere between three and four feet, and it
weighed a mighty 44 pounds, 6 ounces. It was estimated that
he was around 100 years old. How about that!
This article does a great job of touching on live lobsters,
one thing is for sure, this topic is rather large and can't
really be covered in one sitting. There is also

Find Your Perfect Coffee Recipe
by Robert Carlton
Coffee can be tasted and enjoyed in so many different
varieties and ways. There is a plethora of recipes that
every coffee lover must try. Below are some of the ones to
sample.
Although, unusual, definitely worth it. The first recipe
involves baking a coconut at 300 degree Fahrenheit for
thirty minutes. Then after it is removed and cooled down,
the shell can be broken open and the flesh grated. Then the
flesh and milk of the coconut should be combed with about
half a cup of regular milk. Then this is all put into a pan
and heated until it is thick. The mixture should then be
strained. This mixture is then put into a cup of coffee and
sipped.
Then there is the mocha, but this one is Mexican is style.
It involves a teaspoon of chocolate syrup combined with a
dash of cinnamon and nutmeg. Then this is poured into a cup
of coffee with sugar added to taste. Whipping cream is the
perfect completion to this beverage. Then there is something
called the Cubano which is enjoyed straight and shot like
tequila. The Americano, which is espresso and hot water, can
be diluted using rum or hot milk. However, no more than bout
a tablespoon of milk should be added, otherwise the American
is ruined.
For a holiday treat, try the Grog. This is when an orange is
peeled and then divided into slices. Then the same is done
to a lemon. Then a peel about the same size of one orange
slice is placed in the bottom of a cup. A little butter,
brown sugar, and ground clove should be mixed together with
some nutmeg and cinnamon. This is all combined with about
half a cup of coffee with some heavy cream to taste.
The Viennese is dark chocolate melted with one tablespoon of
light cream. Then about half a cup of coffee is slowly added
and whipped until frothy. Once it has settled, then it is
sprinkled with cocoa and cinnamon. It should be tasted with
the pinky raised in traditional aristocrat style.
The Turkish style is the most simple. The coffee is boiled
with the water and not strained. A cup of water is poured
into a pot and brought to a boil with about half a teaspoon
of sugar. Once it has been removed from the heat then about
a teaspoon of coffee is added and should be stirred to
remove some of the heat. After a layer of foam appears the
coffee should be allowed to settle and cool. Then it can be
enjoyed.
Vietnamese coffee is one of the most popular iced coffee
beverages. The coffee should be put through a

coffee maker and then about a tablespoon of condensed milk
added into cup at the bottom. Then the boiling water is
poured over the press and let to drip. It is all then
stirred, cooled down with ice and enjoyed. All of this
involves some work on the coffee lover's part unless they
want an invaluable experience and wish to travel the world
to get their coffee.

Creative Coffee Blends from Around the World
by Jack Blacksmith
One benefit of drinking a beverage that is both historic and
international is the variety of ways you can enjoy it, which
is one of the reasons coffee has become so popular today.
Just go to a local coffee shop and look at the menu. The
flavors, blends and combinations are endless. The Caribbean,
Mexican mocha and Cuban cubano are just a few of the many
you might find.
The Caribbean is an unusual recipe, but worth the try. Bake
a coconut for approximately thirty minutes at 300 degrees
Fahrenheit. Then, remove the coconut and allow it to cool.
Once cool, crack open the shell and remove the grate and
flesh inside. Mix and heat the coconut milk, meat and a half
cup of cow's milk in a pan until it thickens after which you
need to remove the granules of coconut which is best done by
straining the mixture. Then, mix it with a cup of coffee and
enjoy.
The Mexican mocha is a tasty blend of chocolate and coffee,
as with any mocha. Add a teaspoon of chocolate syrup and a
quarter teaspoon each of nutmeg and cinnamon to a cup of
coffee, as well as white sugar to your individual likeness.
For an extra bonus, you can add some whipping cream on top,
or even mix it in.
The Cuban cubano is enjoyed like tequila. Take it straight
and like a shot. Some may prefer to dilute the drink with
some hot milk or rum, but adding any more than a tablespoon
of milk will ruin the invaluable taste of the cubano drink
itself. Go ahead and add rum to taste.
Some other international drinks to enjoy are Turkish,
Vietnamese and Viennese.
To make the Viennese, melt an eighth cup of dark chocolate
into a sauce pan and stir in a tablespoon of light cream.
Once blended, sprinkle some cocoa and cinnamon across the
top and enjoy.
Now, the Turkish is a fairly easy recipe, but you will
certainly benefit from finding a dzezva pot in which to boil
the coffee. Yes, you will need to boil it. Turkish coffee
has a very strong flavor. Begin with some finely ground
Turkish coffee. Pour one cup water into the dzezva and bring
to a boil after adding a half teaspoon of sugar to the pot.
Once it reaches a boiling point, remove it from the heat and
add one teaspoon of the Turkish coffee. Stir, place it back
on the heat and then remove it after you see a layer of
foam. Once it has cooled and settled, drink up and enjoy
this robust, delicious blend.
The Vietnam is one chilled coffee you do not want to miss.
Once you find a Vietnamese coffee press, you are on easy
street as that is the challenging part. Now, place the
grounds into the press, pour one tablespoon of condensed
milk into the bottom of your cup. Pour boiling water over
the press. Let it drip, then stir and add ice.
Besides trying out these recipes, your other option is to
just travel the world and let the local baristas do the
work. Otherwise, it is up to you to use your own
